In the past, it was typical to eat them in the middle of the dance during the summer festivals, which attracted people from all over L’Empordà. The apples are simmered for two or three days, in several sessions, and filled with sweet sausage meat, almonds, egg, aniseed, cinnamon, chocolate, lemon, biscuits and sugar. You can try them at the Vilabertran Stuffed Apple Fair, which is held in mid-September.
